Perler beads

Turn a photo into a Perler bead pattern

For anyone who wants a phone photo, sketch or sprite to become a real pegboard pattern. Follow the workflow below, then jump into brand, board size and cleanup guides when you need detail.

Open the maker and upload

Open the free Perler bead pattern maker. Drop in a photo, drawing or existing pixel art. Small sprites are detected and stay one bead per pixel — useful when you already have clean pixel art.

Nothing is uploaded: conversion runs in your browser. Prefer a clear subject and a calm background; busy scenes become speckled bead charts.

Board width and color count

Under Colors, pick the brand you own (Perler is the usual US default). Set width in pegboards: one board (29) for icons, two (58) for faces and pets, three (87) when you want real detail. See board width and pagination.

Start with about 10–15 max colors. Fewer colors give cleaner shapes and a shorter shopping list. Portraits may need 20–30. Details: max colors and brand palettes.

Background and cleanup

Turn on Remove background for white or simple studio backs. Keep Clean up stray pixels on; leave dithering off unless you need soft skies or skin. Guide: remove background, cleanup and dither.

Print the chart

Press PDF for one pegboard per page, row/column numbers, lettered beads and a materials list. Or export PNG / CSV. See print and PDF and materials list.

Fix beads before you iron

Paint, fill or erase on the chart, or open Edit in the Perler bead designer. Fix eyes and outlines before you buy beads. Then place, cover with ironing paper and iron on medium heat.
