Banner A
Base: Background
- Letter → Pale Dexter
- Letter → Pale Sinister
- Letter → Chief
- Letter → Fess
- Background → Bordure
Type a word and see it spelled in Minecraft letter banners, in the two colors you choose. The whole Minecraft alphabet, A–Z and 0–9, comes with loom steps, a Java /give command and a shopping list of banners and dyes.
Every letter, digit and symbol previewed in your two colors.
* closest shape a loom can make within six layers
Each recipe uses two dyes: the letter color and the background color. Start with a banner in the color named under “Base”, then apply the layers from top to bottom in a loom.

Enter a name, a shop sign or a team tag. Each character becomes one banner; spaces leave a gap.
Choose the letter color and the background color. Strong contrast, like black on white, reads from far away.
The recipe list below shows the base banner, dye and pattern for every layer, in order. Or copy the /give commands for your word from the sidebar.
Place the banners side by side on a wall, left to right, to spell the word.
All 26 letters, 10 numbers and - + . ! as banners, shown in your colors as you type.
Every design fits the six-layer loom limit, so you can craft the whole alphabet without commands.
See how many banners of each color and how many dyes the whole word takes, plus any pattern item it needs.
Copy the commands for the whole word, for Java 1.20.5 and later or the older 1.13–1.20.4 format.
Letters a loom cannot draw exactly (V, Q, 6 and 9) are marked, so nothing looks wrong by surprise.
Save the whole word as one PNG, ready to print or share.
Minecraft has no letter patterns. Every letter is built from the ordinary stripes, halves and diagonals, stacked in a loom in the right order. A layer dyed in the background color does not add a shape, it erases one, and that trick is what makes most of the alphabet possible.
Almost every letter ends with a Bordure in the background color. It trims the strokes away from the edge, so neighbouring banners do not run into each other and the word stays readable.
Each layer covers the ones below it. Apply the steps exactly in the listed order: a background layer applied too early erases nothing, and applied too late it can cut a stroke in half.
Their rounded side uses Bordure Indented. Since Java 1.21.2 the loom only offers it when a Bordure Indented Banner Pattern (paper and vines) is in the pattern slot. The item is not used up.
To make a second banner with the same letter, put the finished banner and a blank banner of the same base color in a crafting grid. You get two copies and keep the original.
Each banner is one block wide, so a word needs as many blocks of wall as it has characters. Leave one empty block for each space.

Start with a banner in the background color, then use a loom to add patterns in the letter color, such as stripes on the left, right, top and middle for an A. Finish with a Bordure in the background color. Every letter’s exact steps are in the recipe list below.
Yes. Every design here uses six layers or fewer, the most a loom allows. B and D also need a Bordure Indented Banner Pattern in Java 1.21.2 and later.
A banner is only 20 pixels wide and a loom stops at six layers, so a few shapes such as V, Q, 6 and 9 cannot be drawn exactly. The star marks the closest shape that can be made.
The loom steps use the same patterns, so you can follow them in Bedrock. Bedrock’s /give command cannot set banner patterns, so the commands are for Java only.
Banners are too small for separate lowercase shapes. Lowercase letters you type are shown as capitals.
Right below the tool. Every letter and number of the Minecraft banner alphabet is listed with its base banner and layers, in letter and background colors, so you can craft any Minecraft letters without typing a word first.
High contrast reads best from a distance: black on white, white on black, or yellow on blue. Avoid pairs like gray and light gray.
