How it works

Design a kandi cuff in three steps

  1. Upload a design

Simple, bold images with a few colors make the best cuffs: logos, smileys, hearts, characters and words.

  2. Set beads per row

Choose how many beads go around your wrist and how many colors you want, including neon pony beads.

  3. String it row by row

Count beads from the written rows or the grid, one row at a time, until the cuff is complete.

What you get

Everything you need to string the cuff

Pony bead colors

Common opaque and neon pony bead colors, or switch to Perler colors for fuse bead kandi.

Beads per row

Pick the cuff circumference in beads; the height follows the shape of your image.

Row-by-row counts

Each row is written as bead runs, like “4 A, 2 B, 4 A”, so you can string without staring at the grid.

Bead totals

Know exactly how many beads of each color to buy before you start.

Edit the grid

Fix single beads with paint, fill and erase, and undo freely.

Print or save as PDF

Print the grid with the bead list and the written rows on separate pages.

Tips

Kandi cuffs, pony beads and sizing

Kandi is the bright, beaded jewelry traded at raves and festivals. A cuff is a wide bracelet made of several rows of pony beads strung together, so a picture can wrap around the wrist like pixel art.

How many beads per row?

Measure loosely around the widest part of your hand, since the cuff has to slide on. Many adult cuffs land between 20 and 30 pony beads per row, but bead sizes vary by brand, so string one test row and try it on before you start.

Which stitch does the grid show?

The grid is a straight grid: every bead sits directly above the one below, as in multi-stitch (ladder) cuffs. Peyote-style cuffs offset every other row by half a bead, so images look slightly shifted when worked in peyote.

Picking colors

Keep it to four to eight colors for a first cuff. Neon pony beads pop under black light, and black or white outlines make shapes readable from a distance. For flat fuse bead projects instead of cuffs, use the Perler bead pattern maker; for yarn, try the tapestry crochet pattern maker.

FAQ

Kandi pattern maker questions

How do I make a kandi pattern from a picture?

Upload the picture above, choose the number of beads per row and the number of colors. The bead grid, bead counts and row-by-row instructions are created instantly.

How many beads go around a kandi cuff?

Most adult cuffs are about 20 to 30 pony beads around, depending on your hand and the bead brand. String one test row and slide it over your hand before committing.

What are pony beads?

Pony beads are plastic beads with a large hole, roughly 9 by 6 mm, sold in opaque, transparent, glitter and neon colors. They are the standard bead for kandi.

Can I use Perler beads for kandi?

Yes. Some kandi makers string fuse beads. Switch the palette to Perler to match their colors.

Does the pattern work for peyote cuffs?

The grid assumes beads stack straight up, like multi-stitch cuffs. In peyote every other row is offset by half a bead, so the image will look slightly slanted.

Is it free?

Yes, free with no sign-up, and your image never leaves your device.
