Layers

    What you need

      /give command

Bedrock: follow the loom steps. Its /give command cannot set banner patterns.

      How it works

Design a banner in three steps

      1. Pick the banner color

This is the cloth that shows wherever no pattern covers it.

      2. Add patterns

Choose a dye, then click patterns to add them as layers. Reorder, recolor or remove layers on the right.

      3. Craft or copy

Follow the loom steps in survival, or copy the /give command for Java. Save a PNG or copy the link to share it.

      What you get

A banner creator built for survival

      All 42 patterns

Every Java loom pattern, from stripes and halves to the Creeper, Skull, Flow and Guster charges.

      Six-layer check

The layer list shows when a design goes past the loom’s six layers and can only be given with a command.

      Pattern items flagged

Patterns that need a banner pattern item in the loom are marked, and the steps say which item to use.

      Banner or shield

Copy a /give command for a banner or a shield, in the 1.20.5+ or 1.13–1.20.4 format.

      Share and save

The design lives in the page link, so copying the URL shares it. Save a PNG with the loom steps beside the banner.

      Ready-made starts

Begin from a preset or open any letter from the banner letters page and change it.

      Tips

      Banner design tips

A banner starts as plain cloth crafted from six wool of one color and a stick. In a loom you add one pattern at a time: put the banner in the left slot, a dye in the middle, pick the pattern, and take the result. Repeat for each layer.

      Six layers in survival

A Java loom stops at six patterns. Commands can stack up to sixteen, which this maker allows, but anything past the sixth layer only exists through /give.

      Erase with the base color

A pattern dyed in the banner’s own color cuts away whatever is below it. That is how you trim stripes, open holes or round off corners without extra patterns.

      Special patterns need an item

Creeper Charge, Skull Charge, Flower Charge, Thing, Globe, Snout, Flow, Guster, Field Masoned and Bordure Indented only appear in the loom when their banner pattern item is in the third slot. The item is reusable.

      Put it on a shield

Craft a finished banner with a shield to copy the design onto the shield. The banner is used up, so copy it first if you want to keep one on the wall.

      Make copies cheaply

A patterned banner plus a blank banner of the same base color in the crafting grid gives two identical banners, without repeating the loom steps.

      FAQ

      Minecraft banner maker questions

How many patterns can a banner have?

Six in a survival loom. Java commands accept up to sixteen, so designs with more than six layers have to be given with /give.

How do I get the banner into my world?

In survival, follow the loom steps in order. With cheats or on a server where you are an operator, copy the /give command and paste it into chat or a command block.

Why does the loom not show some patterns?

Ten patterns need a banner pattern item in the loom’s third slot: Creeper Charge, Skull Charge, Flower Charge, Thing, Globe, Snout, Flow, Guster, Field Masoned and Bordure Indented. The maker marks them with a dot.

Which command format should I use?

Use “Java 1.20.5 and later” for current versions. The 1.13–1.20.4 format is for older worlds and servers. Flow and Guster only exist from 1.21.

Does this work for Bedrock Edition?

Bedrock uses the same loom patterns, so the loom steps work there too. Bedrock’s /give cannot set banner patterns.

      Can I share a design?

Yes. The design is saved in the page address, so copying the link shares the exact banner.

How many Minecraft banner patterns are there?

Java Edition has 42 banner patterns. 32 are always available in the loom; the other 10 need a banner pattern item. This banner creator includes all 42.

Where can I find Minecraft banner designs to start from?

Pick one of the ready-made designs under the preview, open any letter from the banner letters page, or open a link someone shared with you. Every design can be changed layer by layer.
