Cut map vs fabric map — what each print is for

The two preview tabs are not restyles of one image: one guides the knife on foam, the other guides fabric IDs and cutting. Mixing them causes scoring by color or guessing cloth from lines alone.

Preview tabs

In the kinusaiga pattern maker (and matching designer views) switch among:

  • Fabric map — colored, numbered regions for choosing and cutting cloth;
  • Cut map — line work for scoring foam;
  • Photo (photo workflows) — compare against the upload while you check partitions.

From a photo, confirm the fabric map is not overly fragmented, then inspect cut lines before scoring. Blank grids: designer. Photo flow: maker.

Cut map: for scoring

Treat the cut map as a groove map: tape or lightbox it, and score along the lines only — you do not paint fills onto the foam. Intersections are region borders. Depth should hold fabric edges without cutting the board too deep.

Print the cut page at real size — see 100% / actual size printing. Do not score from a scaled screenshot.

Fabric map and fabric list

The fabric map pairs colored regions with numbers that match the Fabric list. Use it when cutting and assigning cloth; do not guess IDs from the scored board alone.

If two on-screen colors look similar, trust numbers and the list, and compare real fabric swatches — screen colors are approximate. After recoloring or merging tiny regions, recheck that numbers still match the list before print.

Show numbers

Show numbers makes region IDs clearer for reading aloud or photo notes. If numbers feel crowded, zoom the preview or export PNG/SVG, then merge small regions in the designer if needed.

Print and build order

Print/PDF usually outputs cut + fabric/list pages. Recommended order:

  1. Print at real size and verify the calibration mark;
  2. Score foam from the cut map only;
  3. Cut and tuck fabric using the fabric map and list;
  4. Optionally keep PNG/SVG backups.
