Kinusaiga

Turn a photo into kinusaiga fabric and cut maps

Photo-to-pattern maker reference — not the shape designer. Labels below match the live maker page.

Upload a photo

Open the kinusaiga pattern maker. Use Upload a photo, or follow Drag & drop, click, or paste (Ctrl+V). Formats note: JPG, PNG or WebP · stays on your device — processing stays in the browser.

Or use Or try a sample: (Sunset, Cat & moon, Sunflower). Clear subjects and simple backgrounds work best.

Size and simplification

  • Board size — e.g. 5 × 5 in (13 cm), 5 × 7 in (13 × 18 cm), 8 × 8 in (20 cm), 8 × 10 in (20 × 25 cm).
  • Orientation: Portrait / Landscape.
  • Photo fit: Crop or Fit.
  • Fabric colors: Simple → Rich.
  • Piece size: Fine detail → Big & easy (presets like Fine detail, Detailed, Medium, Large, Big & easy).
  • Smooth shapes, Line weight (Thin/Medium/Bold), Show numbers.

Fabric map vs cut map

Preview tabs: Fabric map, Cut map, Photo.

  • Fabric map (Fabric map) — numbered colors vs the Fabric list.
  • Cut map (Cut map) — lines to tape onto foam and score.
  • Photo — original photo.

Keep small details

The sidebar checkbox Keep small details (eyes, noses) biases the algorithm to keep eyes/noses. After a pattern appears, use Tap to keep a detail on the preview to pin features as their own pieces; clear taps with the clear-points control when needed.

Print, PNG, SVG

  • PDF — print at print at 100% / “Actual size”; check the 1-inch bar (should measure 1 inch).
  • PNG and SVG — one two-page file: cut map + fabric map/list at real size.

Make it in fabric

Next: beginner tutorial and supplies. For hand-drawn shapes use the kinusaiga designer ( Draw kinusaiga shapes and export cut and fabric maps), or Edit a free pattern.

Practice: clear subjects and simple backgrounds segment more reliably; raise piece size or lower color count when details overwhelm. Always print at 100% real size — do not use fit-to-page. There is no community Share on this tool; export is Print / PNG / SVG. Very thin regions may merge on the cut map so pieces stay tuckable.
