Estimate beads per row from wrist size

Too tight pinches; too loose spins. Measure the wrist or test a stretch cord loop before locking width in the maker/designer.

What width means

In the maker and designer, width = beads in each row = beads around the cuff. It controls both fit and horizontal resolution. It is not Perler pegboard count and has no 29-cell red board lines.

Height (designer) is rows/rounds — cuff “thickness” and vertical detail. Lock width before height to avoid redraws.

Typical range

Presets about 15–40, often default 25. Starting ranges:

  • Kids / slim wrists: ~18–22;
  • Typical adults: ~24–32;
  • Looser fit or larger pony beads: try 22–28;
  • Tighter fit or smaller beads: try 28–36.

Larger outer diameter usually needs fewer beads for the same wrist. Do not copy 5 mm Perler counts onto pony beads.

Estimating fit

Measure the wrist or test a stretch cord loop at the target count. Elastic tension, hole size, and spacer beads change feel — nudge ±2 if needed.

Failure modes: too tight to don, or so loose the cuff spins and the motif slides. Fixing fit after a full stringing usually means rebuilding — test at the width stage.

After you set it

Changing width rescales the pattern — lock width early. Still string from the bottom row. See maker, designer, PNG and CSV, Print and PDF.
