Beginner 9 pieces 3 fabrics ≈ 1–2 hours

A round sun with alternating triangular rays — a bright, simple design for little hands. This version uses the Ocean Breeze palette of sky blue, cobalt, sunshine.

Fabrics you need

#ColorSuggestionPiecesAt 8 in

2 Cobalt 7 about 5" × 5"
3 Sunshine 1 about 4" × 4"
Maker tip: Use two yellows for the rays so they shimmer.

How to make the Sunshine · Ocean Breeze kinusaiga

  1. Print and transfer

Print the cut map at your chosen size, tape it to a foam board and score each line about 1/8" (3 mm) deep, keeping the blade upright.

  2. Cut your fabric

Match the 3 numbered colors to your fabrics. Cut each piece about 1/4" (6 mm) larger than its shape on every side.

  3. Tuck the 9 pieces

Start with the background and work toward the front. Press the fabric edges into the grooves with a butter knife, seam ripper or tucking tool.

  4. Finish and frame

Trim any loose threads, tuck the outer edge around the board and set it in a shadow box or a deep frame.
