Kikko Hexagons · Forest Walk kinusaiga pattern

Advanced 40 pieces 4 fabrics ≈ 3–5 hours

Kikko, the Japanese tortoise-shell pattern of hexagons, here in two alternating tones for a woven look. This version uses the Forest Walk palette of pale moss, sage, green.

Fabrics you need

#ColorSuggestionPiecesAt 8 in
1 Sage 13 about 6" × 6"
2 Green 13 about 6" × 6"
3 Forest green 13 about 6" × 6"
4 Pale moss 1 about 4" × 4"
Maker tip: Hexagons share every edge — tuck neighbours alternately so no groove gets overfilled.

How to make the Kikko Hexagons · Forest Walk kinusaiga

  1. Print and transfer

Print the cut map at your chosen size, tape it to a foam board and score each line about 1/8" (3 mm) deep, keeping the blade upright.

  2. Cut your fabric

Match the 4 numbered colors to your fabrics. Cut each piece about 1/4" (6 mm) larger than its shape on every side.

  3. Tuck the 40 pieces

Start with the background and work toward the front. Press the fabric edges into the grooves with a butter knife, seam ripper or tucking tool.

  4. Finish and frame

Trim any loose threads, tuck the outer edge around the board and set it in a shadow box or a deep frame.
