Tapestry crochet

Tapestry crochet charts with written color rows

Convert an image to a crochet graph with written instructions. Control names match the tapestry crochet maker page.

Upload and width

Open the tapestry crochet pattern maker and upload JPG / PNG / WebP / GIF. Width is how many stitches wide the piece is; height follows the image. Graphs read from the bottom up — one square is usually one single crochet.

Yarn colors

Use Max colors (about 2–12) to limit carried yarns. Fewer colors mean fewer strands. Each color gets a letter in the materials list that matches the chart.

Flat vs in the round

Above the written rows, switch between:

  • Back and forth (flat) — direction alternates each row (right-handed: odd rows right→left, even left→right).
  • In the round — every round the same way (bags, baskets, hats).

The written instructions follow the mode you pick.

Written rows

Row by row lists each row as stitch runs such as “5 A, 3 B, 5 A”, starting from the bottom row. You can also work straight from the numbered graph.

Edit and export

Press Edit to paint, fill or erase single stitches. Then:

  • PDF — chart and instructions across pages
  • PNG / CSV
  • Share — community gallery when signed in

Practice: bold 2–6 color images crochet cleanest; too many colors means too many carried strands. In flat mode, watch odd/even row direction; in the round, keep one direction. Graphs read bottom-up. Publishing: Publish your pattern to the community gallery.
