Design stitch count
Open the cross stitch calculator. Enter Design width (stitches) and Design height (stitches) from your chart or key.
Fabric count
Fabric count chooses Aida (commonly 11–20) or evenweave / linen (25–36). Evenweave and linen use the usual over 2 stitching, so the effective stitches per inch are half the fabric count.
Margin
Margin on each side is empty fabric on every side for framing or a hoop — often 2–3 inches (5–8 cm). The Fabric to cut result already includes that margin on both sides.
Units and results
Units switches between Inches and Centimeters. You get:
- Finished design size — design area only (stitches ÷ effective count)
- Fabric to cut — piece to cut including margins
All counts compared
The Same design on every fabric table shows the same stitch count across common fabrics, with columns Fabric, Design size and Fabric to cut.
Reverse calculator
Under How many stitches fit?, enter Target width and Target height (frame or available fabric) to see about how many stitches fit (message shaped like “About {w} × {h} stitches”). Handy when charting your own design — then use the pixel art converter at that width so one pixel is one stitch.
Scope: sizing only — no chart or floss list is generated here. Confirm evenweave / linen is worked over two or the effective count will not match. Too little margin complicates framing; too much wastes fabric. Use the comparison table to trade finished size against stitch fineness before cutting.
